Oh, too bad!

I'd been looking forward to the film adaptation of Ballet Shoes, a favorite novel from my childhood. (Unlike Jenny, though, my favorite Streatfeild novel was The Painted Garden, otherwise known as Movie Shoes, not this one.) Unfortunately the NYT reviewer doesn't think it's so great.

  1. My favorite Streatfield novel was Apple Bough. It had lots of things to puzzle over, like how you passed a test "with flying colors," and it introduced me to Browning's poem "Home Thoughts, from Abroad."

  2. Really I loved them all, and of course had much stronger aspirations in the acting direction than dancing!

I agree on the cultural references thing - I puzzled over many, many things and enjoyed figuring 'em out years later!
